Vintage Things

Every day as I travel to and fro from my house to who knows where, I pass this truck. It always catches my eye...always! I think it's adorable. It's just the bones of what it used to be many a time ago, but here he sits, still telling a visual story of yesterday as he meets the passer-byes of today. Oh how I wish he could speak and tell us of the trips he traveled and the passengers he carried.

This pot could tell a story also. It belonged to my Grandmother. As far back as I can remember, she had this filled with one kind of flower or another. She had a green thumb and I think, a green heart:)
It seemed that anything she planted grew...and grew...and grew. My thumb?...not so green, but I think I share her green heart.

"He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly,
and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully"
2 Corinthians 9:6

I love overflowing pots!

These pictures were taken last year. Sadly, there are not many flowers blooming yet...but soon!

I have to admit that I am a little impatient. God is working on me in that area. Isn't He good to give us these beautiful gifts of flowers? He gives them to us in the form of seeds, so we will learn to sow them, wait for them to sprout and grow and bloom. In doing so, we learn to be patient. Sometimes I  cheat myself and skip the seed and sowing part...go right to the flowers!
I'm tempted to start buying flower packs and fill my pots!

But I have tons of seeds from last years flowers...so maybe I should let patients have its perfect work and plant the seeds and wait.

"He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food
will supply and multiply your seed for sowing
and increase the harvest of your righteousness.
2 Corinthians 9:10

This is Oliver. Do you see his name tag? He's another visitor from the past I drive by occasionally. He doesn't get around much anymore, but I can imagine he was a hard worker in his younger days.

Don't know this guys name but I'm pretty sure he was also part of the working class. He might know Oliver because they live on the same street. I would like to think they are the best of friends.

You've seen these teacups before. I hope you don't mind seeing them again. Out of the few vintage teacups in my china cupboard these two are my favorite.

I put this vintage doily in a picture frame so I won't soil it, and I use it for a serving tray. That way it can be displayed without being damaged. I plan to add handles to the sides but haven't decided if I like this frame or want to get a different one. A vintage one would be nice.

I'm using it today for my tea tray.

Tea and toast ~ English Breakfast Tea with a bit of honey and cinnamon raisin toast with cream cheese.

These plum blossoms were cut from the fruit trees in the orchard and give off a sweet fragrance.

With everything on my tray... outside I go!

It's a beautiful day today. I hope you enjoy your day (outside perhaps?) and have a wonderful tea time!

  3. I enjoyed your post so much. I've always loved tractors, especially old ones that probably worked so hard in the fields. Your last years flowers are so pretty, and I'm glad you have your grandmothers flower pot. Your tea looks so inviting and I love your teacups.

  5. Hi Charlotte,
old things could probably tell a lot history. Nice that they got a place where they can rest for the next decades. Your tea cups are lovely. Your idea to display the doily in a frame and use it as tray is gorgeous. May be some handles from an old dresser would work great. Thank you for sharing this inspiring idea and the nice photos.
    Best greetings, Johanna

  7. Hello Charlotte
I liked your post with the old tractors and truck. Some of the homes in my rural area have old farm implements in the front yard and I love driving by them too.
I'm inspired by the idea with your doily, I think Michael's sells handled trays with glass that you can put things under.
    Have a good week.
