1 1/2 tsp. vinegar
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup butter
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. shredded lemon peel
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. each baking soda and salt
Stir vinegar into milk. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Beat in egg and peel. Mix dry ingredients; add to creamed mixture alternately with milk (just until dough forms); beat after each addition. Drop from teaspoon 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 for 12 to 14 minutes, until golden around the edges. Remove at once.
When cool sprinkle with powdered sugar or use glaze:
1/4 cup powdered sugar and 1 1/2 tsp. lemon juice.
If you don't want as much lemon flavor, substitute milk for the lemon juice.
Drizzle from spoon across cookies.
